![]() ![]() I'd say to someone who has never heard of this series until now, play Soul Reaver if you can handle a certain amount of PS1 jank because it is a good and interesting game and works as a standalone. So while I'd like to skip both Blood Omen games entirely in a replay, that would leave me misunderstanding a lot of things in the story, and the game takes a lot of pains to make sure you can't ignore the story. If you forgot that weird time skip in Blood Omen 1 when you realize three games later that the time and destiny dude is a key player in this story, you have to go back and replay a game that has not aged well (or probably wasn't all that great to begin with). But there's no "flipping back" in video games. That story is amazingly complex and rewards flipping back to previous volumes to find all the crazy foreshadowed details. I'm rereading Neil Gaiman's Sandman since they made an Audible adaptation that's really good. ![]() And the story I think is too complex for a video game story spanning games with vastly different gameplay. But that's the shining jewel in an otherwise average series. I thought it was interesting using environmental kills on the vampires, and shifting into the spirit realm for puzzle solving was a lot of fun. Soul Reaver 1 was amazing, with a ton of interesting concepts. it's not worth your money, your time, or the copious amounts of alcohol you would need to endure it in 2020. This game is epitome of a blockbuster rental. i swear, i don't know how long i played this but it felt like 10 hrs of game in a 20 hr sack.the game is 10 hours longer than it should be.the enemy smashes the gate, and is never seen again. the warehouse has a crane with a box on it. there is no internal logic to these puzzles. ![]()
